Learning to walk in the freedom of sobriety is tricky. There seems to be something different in “folks like us”. I think of it as being wired differently. This is often seen in a desperate need for structure but a deep resistance to the life giving guidelines we need.

Physically they are free or moving towards freedom.
Psychologically they are still bound. They don’t know how to stand up for themselves.
Spiritually they are just learning what living in faith truly looks like. Did God bring us out in the wilderness to kill us because there were no graves in Egypt.

Marking the houses took great faith. What if this had not happened? Their houses would have been marked for sure death by the Egyptians.

If you look in any direction or take just a few steps, you will encounter someone in the throughs of bondage. Fighting. Blinded. Suffering. Lost. Crying out. Disparate. These are the people we are called to go after.

The beautiful thing is God never stops pursuing us. In the garden when Adam and Eve sinned and ran away - God went looking for them! When Moses made a huge mistake and ran away - God went looking for him.
