Seeing Results

The point of the last few days devotionals has been to help us understand who we really are and then see what our purpose is day to day.  When Jesus tells us to “go”, it is difficult to fully grasp why we should “go” if we do not understand who we are in Jesus.

Each morning one of my first thoughts is to remind myself who I am.  I am created in God’s image.  I was crafted with a purpose.  God put me all together and I am beautifully and wonderfully made. (Psalms 139:14)  You would not believe what a difference those few sentences make.  The focus of my day is now set.

If our focus is in the proper place, on Jesus, then it only goes to reason our lives will begin to reflect Him.  As we reflect the loving Creator living inside of us something happens; our behaviors begin to change.

You may not have ever thought about this, but you will see yourself living out what Jesus called the “greatest commandment”.  Loving God with all of your heart and loving your neighbor as much as you love yourself. (Matthew 22:37)

I have heard people that work out and exercise use the phrase, seeing results.  I assume they are talking about building muscles and endurance.  (I wouldn’t really know, because I do not work out or exercise.)  But I do understand the idea of changing behaviors and seeing a better outcome.

Take a moment and reflect on this.  Because of Jesus living inside of me my life has changed… And you fill in the blank.

Now we are really getting somewhere.  Since we are focusing upon God and loving Him with everything in us, we begin to love those around us the same way we love ourselves.  That my friends is the core of our purpose.  Go!

With the Holy Spirit burning on the inside of us, we cannot help but to go.  Go and be a better husband or wife.  Go and be a better parent.  Go and do the best job we can at work.  Go and help others with all your heart.  Go and be the best friend to your group of buddies.  Go and mimic God and be that mirror reflecting Jesus.

I hope you understand when Jesus told us to “go” in Acts 1:8, He was meaning far more than just telling folks about Jesus.  He is telling us pour into peoples lives around us the way He pours into ours.  Let’s go and watch Jesus change the world through us.
