Pursuit of Love

Our lives are full of choices.  A series of small choices or decisions stacked upon each other.  Do I get up when my alarm goes off?  Do I hit snooze a few times?  Do I say good morning to God?  Coffee?  Breakfast?  OMG!  I am running late!  And the choices have begun…

Choices are actions.  Some small, others much larger.  As followers of Jesus, our choice should be to love the way Jesus loved.  Jesus showed us how to serve others and love!  Peter challenged us to love so deeply that it begins to stretch us even to the point of hurting.  There is just no getting around it; if we choose to love like Jesus, we choose to be in action or in motion.  This is no couch-sitting activity.  It is not a spectator sport.

Pursuing love is chasing after Jesus.  This pursuit or chase is a continuous choice; an action that must be made every day and throughout the day.  With each situation we face we must pursue Jesus, in doing so a drastic shift occurs.  I believe this is what Jesus may have meant when He said, “they will know you by your love”.   The choice of Love or Loving will be visible.  People will see something different.

The Apostle Paul, tried to live this example out in everything he did.  He went so far as to say, “follow me while I follow Jesus”.  He knew loving like Jesus loved would get folks attention.  Paul’s words in 2 Corinthians 3:3 are beautifully encouraging to me, “Your lives are a letter that anyone can read by just looking at you.  Christ himself wrote it - not with ink, but with God’s living Spirit; not chiseled into stone, but carved into human lives - and we publish it.” (MSG)

Think about that for a moment.  Jesus, the Living King, has written a letter on your heart so everyone can see it!  The way people see your letter is by loving!  Loving like Jesus loved!  Choose to pursue Jesus today!  Show off the love letter that is written on your heart!
