Celebrate God
The book of Psalms is a wonderful group of writings from several different authors. The chapters contain words that express every emotion you can experience. Because so much emotion is on display, we see continued comfort from God. God’s steady hand in the middle of whatever life brings our way. In seeing the struggle of life, we more fully celebrate the Goodness of God.
Over a year ago a group of men sat together in an attempt to get a game plan together. A game plan that would be bigger than any one guy around the table could fully see. When God is calling you to reach out, love on, and pour your life into men and women who are incarcerated there are challenges in front of you. But then when Covid comes into the picture the obstacles grow larger.
As the weeks passed, what originally appeared to be unclimbable mountains became stepping stones. The obstacles encountered quickly turned in to mile markers and reminders of what an Awesome God we serve. The heartfelt words from Psalms now take on a whole new meaning. Perhaps the meaning does not change, but the lens I now read the words has been changed drastically.
When you witness a life thrown away by society come to life in Jesus, words can hardly express the miraculous work of God you have seen. “Come and see what God has done: he is awesome in his deeds toward the children of man. He turned the sea into dry land; they passed through the river on foot. There did we rejoice in him.” (Psalms 66:5-6 ESV)
A wonderful gentleman, I have had the honor of getting to know over the last several months walks into the next chapter in his life this morning. His life now full of hope and promise. My friend radiates Jesus. The fire that burns with in him is contagious! The rubble left behind is made new! “Sing to God a brand-new song. He’s made a world of wonders! He rolled up his sleeves, He set things right. God made history with salvation, He showed the world what he could do.” (Psalms 98:1-2 MSG)
Do you recall the group of guys I mentioned earlier? I joined that group of men as we prayed for our brother in Christ last night. Men from all over the state, brought together by God, to be a part of the wonders of a Loving King! “Take a good look at God’s wonders - they will take your breath away.”
