Life is Calling
Much of the New Testament is made up of letters written by Paul to people he had met along road to establishing the early Christian church. We can put together a time line from the book of Acts. Then read the various letters to gain a deeper understanding of what was happening some 2000 years ago. It would be easy to argue that Paul was the first Christian theologian.
I am greatly encouraged by Paul, but maybe not in the way you would think. Yes, he did great things in the name of Jesus. You may be safe in saying, we wouldn’t be where we are today without his work. But what truly encourages me is the growth we can see in Paul through out his life. Because of the timeline in Acts coupled with all of this letters, we can see Paul go from an evil man attempting to kill anyone linked with Jesus. To a harsh, quick tongued church planter who didn’t mind burning a bridge along the way. To a compassionate, seasoned follow of Jesus. A man who radiate the love of Christ from every pour of his being.
When Paul writes the second letter to Timothy, what we refer to as 2 Timothy, he is nearing his death. Perhaps Paul knows his time is limited. Over his life, Paul poured himself into a young pastor named Timothy and we can feel the love and emotion in Paul’s words here. He compares the work and life of a dedicated Christ follower to that of a farmer, a soldier and an athlete. Each job being challenging and needing dedication.
This is where I think we find ourselves. Each one of us, as followers of the risen King, are ministers. Remember once we are saved by Christ we are called to a Holy work. Think about that for a moment. Your life is now Holy. Your life is now a ministry! “For God gave us (YOU!) a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” (2 Timothy 1:7)
Please keep this in mind, you have a special gift, one that is unique to only you. It was given to you by God on purpose. Keep that ablaze! Let the fire burn bright in your life. God does not want us to be shy with the gifts He has given. So, be bold today and also be full of love. Reflect the love of Jesus burning in you!
