Salvation Suit

Are you the type of person that gives a lot of thought about what you will wear today? Do you lay out your clothes, or some may say “your outfit”, for tomorrow the night before? Or are you the type of person that never thinks about it? You just throw something on and hope it is “clean”. Occasionally, you may get the ol’, “you aren’t going to wear that are you?” I fall somewhere in the middle of those two extremes. But, I do regularly check the weather app on my phone and try to dress accordingly. I like to be prepared for what the day may throw at me.

Isaiah 61-10.png

In Psalms 96:9, David writes about putting on “holy attire” (ASV); when I read those words my thoughts began to spin. Can we wear Righteousness? There is no way that applies to me. Do you have any idea of all the junk that is in my life?

Isaiah 61 has become the cornerstone chapter for my life. I read it almost every day. The way those words speak to my soul is indescribable. As I read the words of David and struggled with this crazy idea of me wearing holy attire, my mind jumped to Isaiah 61:10-11. “I will sing for joy in God, explode in praise from deep in my soul! He dressed me up in a suit of salvation, he outfitted me in a robe of righteousness”. (MSG)

I have to be honest, as I am writing these words from Scripture tears are rolling down my face. Just the thought of God clothing me, covering me, dressing up all my brokenness and making me beautiful is overwhelming. Ephesians 4:24 describes it like this, “…put on the new self (a new person), created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.” (ESV)

Let that sink in for a moment; you, my friend, have been dressed by God! There is nothing to plan or lay out. No one can say, “are you going to wear that?" You do not have to worry about if it is "clean". What was once ugly and dirty, maybe even left for dead and beyond fixing, is no longer! You and I are “hidden with Christ in God”. (Col 3:3) Step out today in triumphant confidence, knowing you are sporting a “suit of salvation”.
