Me-ology vs One Anothering
Recently I heard a friend of mine say “living out the Gospel”. It is a phrase I have heard before, but this particular time it sort of jumped out of the conversation. I found myself tossing the idea around in my mind for the rest of the day. What does it mean to “live out the Gospel”? How does that look?
For starters, the Gospel is life changing; maybe better said, the Gospel is life shattering! So, if I am living out the Gospel my life is going to look different. Your life is going to look different. The way we see the world will be changed. We go from “Me-ology”, which is the focus on Me, to a desire of being a giver, focusing on others over “me”!
Did you know the words one another are used over 50 times in the New Testament? Jesus says we are to “love one another” (John 13:34). James 5:16 tells us to “pray for one another”. Paul, who’s life is an amazing example of moving from Me-ology to a life of one anothering, writes about this repeatedly.
Serve one another (Galatians 5:13)
Honor one another (Philippians 2:3)
Forgive one another (Ephesians 4:32)
Instruct one another (Romans 15:14)
Clearly, putting those around us before ourselves is a big piece of “living out the Gospel”! I wonder if we miss out on the fullness of life designed for us by a loving God because we worry more about Me-ology and do not dive into a life focused on one another?
