Living Temples

Have you ever thought about God living inside of you?  What does that look like? Or feel like?  Does it change anything?

The Psalmists must have wrestled with the idea too.  It’s probably safe to say, most of the writers never “saw God” or heard “His voice” but they had an amazing way of capturing what being in the presence of God was like.  The sounds, smells, emotions all of which are uniquely individual and somehow shared at the same time.

Take a look at Psalms 84:1-10.  When God shows up it is nothing short of amazing.  There is nowhere they’d rather be.  Think about what that offers - safety, peace, love, mercy - everything our hearts long for in this life!

“One day spent in your house, this beautiful place of worship, beats thousands spent on Greek island beaches.”

Let’s take this thought a step further.

Because of the work of Jesus, His life sacrificed for us and the empty tomb, He now lives inside of each believer.  Jesus is alive in you!  You’re alive in Jesus.

In 1 Corinthians 6:19, Paul reminds us that our bodies are temples of the Spirit of God.  So, the beauty described in Psalms 84 is alive in you.  The presence of God dwelling inside of each person pursuing Jesus.

Let that sink in for a moment.

With that in mind, the question becomes how do we live our lives?  Are we temples of the Living God?  Or something modified to fit our selfishness?

Would you say, “Jesus, I would like to coexist with you.  I’d like to share with you my poor choices, my addictions and my unhealthy relationships.  Everything that I hang on to because I have allowed my identity to be shaped by my ego and the world around me!”

Or are you ready to say, “Jesus, meeting you is the best thing that has happened to me. I want to follow you completely and allow you to transform me.  The sin and selfishness that has ruled me is no longer welcome.  You make a home inside of me and surrender my everything to you!”

Seems simple.

But the truth is, without a continuous surrender to the Holy Spirit it is impossible.  Give God your everything today.  Allow it all to be His.  See how your life changes.
